Streaks. Snapchat streaks, Instagram streaks, whatever-app streaks. What is this, a marathon? A bizarre digital endurance test? You’ve got to send a picture, every single day, to someone, just to keep a number going up. A number! What does that number *do*? Does it unlock a secret level of friendship? Does it get you a free coffee? No! It’s just a number! And if you miss a day, it’s gone. ‘Oh no, my 300-day streak with Elaine is over! Does this mean we’re not friends anymore? Did I fail the friendship exam?’ It’s completely arbitrary. I’m telling you, it’s a social construct designed to make us feel guilty about not staring at our phones for precisely 24 hours a day!
