Coffee shops. What’s with all these names? ‘The Roasting Bean Blossom.’ ‘The Whispering Mug.’ ‘Grind & Groove.’ It’s coffee! It’s a place to get coffee! Why does it need a name that sounds like a folk band album? And they all have the same rustic-industrial vibe, too. Exposed brick, Edison bulbs, mismatched chairs. You walk in, and you’re never quite sure if you’re in ‘The Daily Grind’ or ‘The Daily Brew’ or ‘The Daily Something Else.’ They all promise the same ‘artisanal experience’ with their ‘ethically sourced single-origin beans.’ Just give me a cup of joe! A strong one! I don’t need a coffee sommelier to tell me about the nutty undertones and notes of passionfruit. It’s coffee! It tastes like coffee!
